Novel-to-Movie Adaptation

Laksmi’s second novel, Aruna dan Lidahnya, was one of the finalists of the 2015 Khatulistiwa Literary Award.  Its English translation by Tiffany Tsao was published by Amazon Crossing in 2018 under the title The Birdwoman’s Palate.

 

The movie adaptation of the novel, directed by Edwin, garnered 2 Citra Awards at the Festival Film Indonesia, for best supporting actor (Nicholas Saputra) and for best adapted screenplay. The movie received its European premiere at the prestigious Berlinale International Film Festival in February 2019. The movie is available for viewing on Netflix under its original title, Aruna dan Lidahnya.
