Laksmi’s debut novel Amba won the Frankfurt Book Fair’s LiBeraturpreis in 2016. It was also shortlisted for Indonesia’s Kusala Khatulistiwa Award in 2015 and ranked first on Germany’s Weltempfaenger list of the best works of fiction from Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Arab World translated into German. The novel has been translated into English, German and Dutch.

In 2018, Laksmi’s first English novel, Fall Baby, was published in Germany under the title Herbstkind. A year later, the original version was published by Penguin Random House SEA and won the 2020 Singapore Book Award for Best Literary Work.

Two editions of Laksmi’s Jakarta Good Food Guide series have also been honored. The Jakarta Good Food Guide 2001 is listed in the Indonesian collection of world class publications of the National Library of Australia. The Jakarta Good Food Guide 2002-2003 was the 2002 Editorial Merit Winner of HOW Magazine USA’s 10th International Graphic Design Award.

At the end of 2023, Laksmi was named one of 95 Most Resilient and Inspiring Women by the Indonesian Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) for her work on women.
